DUBLIN — James Gallagher, a 22-year-old Irishman, got his Conor McGregor and Becky Lynch moment at Dublin's raucous 3Arena on Friday.

Gallagher was the youngest combatant competing at the Bellator MMA event but was the headline attraction regardless.

He walked to the ring with 10,000+ partisan fans dancing, cheering, and singing — a similar reaction they gave the WWE wrestler Becky "The Man" Lynch earlier in the year, and the former two-weight UFC champion Conor McGregor in 2014.

This time it was Gallagher's turn to savour a reception befitting a national sporting hero, and he did not disappoint by submitting his opponent in little more than 30 seconds.

His opponent, the former UFC fighter Roman Salazar who was brought in to replace the injured Cal Ellenor, stood little chance.

Even when he took Gallagher down in the opening seconds thanks to a misjudged flying knee from the Irishman, Gallagher remained in control, tying Salazar up with a guillotine choke, eventually making him tap out.

To celebrate his win, he jumped out of the cage and into his Straight Blast Gym teammate Conor McGregor's arms.

Watch the submission right here:

"I'm absolutely bullet-proof," Gallagher bellowed on the mic after his win, much to the crowd's delight.

"I don't care what's in my way, I'll walk through walls. You can kick me when I'm down. I do not … give … one … f---."

After McGregor won in Dublin five years ago, it was not long before he was a double champion in UFC. And now Gallagher wants to chase his own dreams.

"I've worked my balls off," he added. "And no one, and I mean no one's going to f------ take this away from me."
